Meet the Team

  • Dayna Santana

    CO-FOUNDER & DIRECTOR

Dayna began working with refugee populations in 2016, when she found herself volunteering in a Syrian and Afghan refugee camp in Athens, Greece. As well as being a humanitarian aid worker living near the Rohingya camps in Bangladesh, Dayna is a researcher on women's rights and gender-based violence. Dayna has masters degrees in peace and conflict studies and sociological research.

Dayna believes that a vital key to changing the world is the education of girls. Her studies, travels, and life experience have shown her that when girls are educated and motivated, the benefits spread outward – laying the foundation for empowered families, communities, and societies.

She also holds a Bachelor of Humanitarian & Development Studies.

Pip is motivated to empower adolescent girls through Maiya School, ensuring they have access to a safe space and opportunities that improve their life outcomes, their confidence and ability to advocate for themselves!

  • Samuda Amin

    VOLUNTEER FIELD ADVISOR

Samuda has been working with the Rohingya community in Cox's Bazar for over 5 years, and is a passionate and well-respected advocate for the community. Samuda has extensive work experience in project management and human rights research.

Samuda is acutely aware of the challenges posed by low levels of education in the Rohingya community. As girls don't feel comfortable to study with boys, Maiya School is a key solution. Samuda hopes and believes that through Maiya School, girls can be inspired, empowered and confident, so that they can help change and develop themselves, as well as their community.
